Over Half Million Dollar Jury Verdict Against Geico Insurance Company
July 2022
On October 23, 2019, Plaintiff, an 84-year-old retired man and Air Force veteran, was traveling on Columbia Park Road at South Club Drive in Prince George's County, Maryland when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction--at an excessive rate of speed-- crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into plaintiff in a near head-on collision. The vehicle that struck Plaintiff fled the scene of the collision. The following day, Plaintiff followed up with a local hospital and was diagnosed with a neck injury. Thereafter, he underwent several months of treatment for his neck.
Plaintiff filed a lawsuit against his insurer, Geico, because they failed to reasonably compensate Plaintiff for the injuries he sustained. The Defendant claimed that plaintiff's injuries were preexisting and unrelated to the collision. The plaintiff's doctor opined that the plaintiff suffered a permanent neck injury as a result of the collision.
On July 20, 2022, after a 2-day jury trial in Prince George's County, Maryland, the jury awarded $585,000.00
